Teach Abroad at Springboard International Bilingual School

Springboard International Bilingual School (SIBS) has been offering a high quality bilingual education to K–12 students since 2011, and now this day school has joined Search Associates. With a low student to teacher ratio, SIBS is able to successfully provide a balanced education in English and Chinese to 500 students, 90% of whom are Chinese. SIBS is conveniently located in Shunyi, a suburb northeast of Beijing, near a major highway and accessible by both bus and subway.  Shunyi boasts many foreign restaurants, shopping malls, and a brand new cinema. The modern SIBS campus encompasses classrooms equipped with Smart Boards, air purifiers, and a stereo sound system. Facilities also include a computer lab, basketball courts, football field, multiple playgrounds, cafeteria, and a performance hall.

SIBS, accredited by the Chinese government, delivers both the U.S. Common Core and the Chinese public school curriculum. The teaching staff of 40 includes 20 from China and 20 from North America. SIBS takes academic assessment and teacher evaluation seriously; the school says students take American Common Core reading assessments periodically in order for staff “to track their performance and guarantee reading and fluency improvement.”

Graduates earn a diploma authorized by the Chinese National Board of Education, and over 90% of SIBS students are accepted by top universities, such as Peking and Tsinghua and others worldwide. High school students may choose Advanced Placement courses in English, American History, World History, Calculus, Statistics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Economics, Government, Psychology, and Environmental Science as well as honors courses. Additionally, SIBS has forged a partnership with Wasatch Academy, a boarding school in Utah where SIBS students can study abroad.

Extracurricular activities at SIBS include football and basketball, origami, general tutoring and ESL help, music, dance, Chinese calligraphy, arts & crafts, chess, Lego building, advanced violin, Chinese folk dancing, and Learning about Movies, an enjoyable way to improve listening skillswatching a movie in English with a teacher helping with vocabulary.

SIBS is interested in hiring singles but will also consider couples, interns, and outstanding newly-certified teachers. Candidates must hold their academic degree in the subject they will be teaching, and the school adds, “Other than the ears, there are to be no visible piercings and no visible tattoos.” Certified teachers from an English-speaking country, up to the age of 60, may obtain a visa.

Benefits comprise a settling-in and housing allowance as well as one annual airfare home. After reviewing each teacher’s family situation, SIBS usually offers 100% tuition for dependents. Professional development, local health insurance, and daily lunch are also provided. SIBS’s comprehensive benefits package and competitive salary could mean substantial savings for teachers, and there are work opportunities for non-teaching spouses.
