Chicago—the Windy City. But for a few days, it was also Math City as educators from far and wide descended upon it for the annual meeting of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM) this September 25–28th. The NCTM conference is the premier event for math educators—some as far flung as Singapore! The event, held this year at McCormick Place Convention Center, inspired with its theme The Math of Their Dreams: Illuminating Students’ Brilliance. Search Associates (SEARCH) representative Senior Associate Brian Lettinga was excited to be there:
With over 6,000 participants in attendance, the conference alive with wonder! If you know current trends in math, then you'll know some of the best [math teachers, authors, and YouTubers go each year. This year, Jo Boaler, Howie Hua, Robert Kaplinsky, and Eugenia Cheng were among the notable participants.
At the SEARCH booth, Brian and his partner Anna Lettinga were busy the entire event, handing out over 200 flyers while answering questions of potential international teaching candidates. Brian sums up their experience:
Overall, #NCTMCHI24 conference in Chicago was like a perfect equation: engaging speakers + professional connections + just the right amount of math wizardry = an unforgettable experience.
If you missed it, don't worry—there’s always next year! Search Associates is excited to be connected with this group of mathematicians!
