Mingwan School: Shaping the Future of Education in China’s Greater Bay Area

Imagine teaching in the heart of China’s Greater Bay Area, at the cutting edge of sustainable and smart education in the “Internet+” Future Technology City.  Mingwan School, meaning “Bright Bay,” is set to open its doors to its first cohort of students in September 2025. As a non-profit, K-12 bilingual school, Mingwan School will enrich Shenzhen's Dachan Bay, located within the newly developing Tencent headquarters campus in the Qianhai district. Boarding facilities will be available for all high school students.

Mingwan School is committed to supporting the greater good–not only through its charitable partnerships and service-learning programs but also by promoting social co-creation and sharing its educational innovations with other institutions. The school’s emphasis on technology, cultural integration, and civic engagement will provide an innovative education, preparing students for success in college and beyond.

Conceived as an independent, non-profit private bilingual school, Mingwan is established by Shenzhen Mingwan Education Foundation, a collaborative initiative involving Chen Yidan Foundation, Tencent, and Shanghai Jingzhi. The school fosters a convergence of Eastern and Western cultures, cultivating a global vision and a balanced approach to knowledge and action. Its mission is to be at the forefront of technological progress while cultivating innovators rooted in Chinese heritage.

Mingwan School’s 40,996 square meter campus will feature three interconnected academic buildings, a dedicated kindergarten facility, a multifunctional sports complex with both indoor and outdoor spaces, and a residential hall designed to house nearly 600 students. These spaces have been meticulously designed by Perkins & Will, a global leader in architectural design. The school will also benefit from Tencent’s technological expertise, providing a smart digital campus with unique experiential learning opportunities.

With the collaboration of the three founding organizations, Mingwan School is positioned to become a leading educational institution in a city known for its technological advancements and financial influence. Chen Yidan Foundation’s strong international network—including partnerships with organizations like the OECD, Harvard University, Stanford University, University of Cambridge, Nanyang Technological University and Yidan Prize laureates—guarantees that world-class support and resources are readily available.

Mingwan plans to offer the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme in high school, a highly recognized and respected pathway to global success, as well as a school-based (elective-based) diploma pathway that leverages the unique resources of Mingwan and that will be accredited by a globally recognized agency.

The teaching staff is a balanced mix of local and international educators, ensuring diverse perspectives and a rich educational experience.

Mingwan School is looking for enthusiastic, skilled, experienced teachers with unlimited potential, as well as those who bring fresh intellectual resources, innovative thinking, and diverse perspectives to the team. Candidates must hold an academic degree in the related subject they will be teaching.

The overseas teaching benefits package includes stipends for relocation, monthly housing allowances, and annual airfare. The school contributes 5% to a retirement plan and covers full tuition for one child. Additional children may be eligible for financial aid. Health insurance, including dental coverage, is provided with the employee responsible for a percentage of the cost. Mingwan School is committed to supporting career development through professional training and growth opportunities. Additionally, founding teachers receive a special annual salary subsidy.
