Co-Head of School for Middle/High School Division
Position Summary
The Co-Head of School, Middle/High School Division is a skilled educator who will act as the academic leader of the middle school and the future high school. The Co-Head of School, Middle/High School Division not only is able to work collaboratively with the Co-Head of Kindergarten and the Co-Head of Elementary, but is also able to lead and collaborate with a team of educators in the middle school division that are both Chinese and Western. Additionally, the Co-Head of School, Middle/High School Division works to ensure consistent and transparent communication with the parents. The Co-Head of School, Middle/High School Division is responsible for ensuring that teachers and staff have the support they need to implement Daystar’s unique middle school program. The Co-Head of School, Middle/High School Division is prepared to be a hands-on leader to not only ensure a successful launch of the program, but to also grow the program over the next few years.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Cross-cultural understanding of not only Chinese and American culture, but also other Western and Asian cultures
- Demonstrates interest in Chinese language and/or culture
- Experience in implementing new programs or large initiatives in an educational setting
- Evidence of successfully working directly with both novice-level and master level teachers
- Evidence of successfully collaborating with colleagues from cultures different then their own
- Has a deep interest in projects-based learning, design thinking and MYP—experience in using two or more of this models is ideal
- Excellent communication skills, both written and spoken in English
- Understands what shared leadership looks like implemented at the middle school level
- Understanding of 1-to-1 laptop programs preferred
- Knowledge of or a background in second language acquisition strongly preferred
- Knowledge of both IBMYP and Projects-Based Learning strongly preferred
- Experience in working with middle school and high school students is preferred
- Proficiency in Mandarin desirable
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Oversee all aspects of the middle school’s curriculum, instruction, assessment and teacher evaluations.
- Lead teachers in implementing instruction using projects-based learning and MYP’s best practices
- Work directly with teachers and other administrators to support teachers in the classroom related to curriculum, instruction and assessments
- Develop structures that allow for collaboration between and amongst all departments
- Develop & manage the middle school’s instructional budget, including what money is allocated for professional development.
- Work directly with the Chief Academic Officer to ensure all academic goals are achieved and aligned to the future high school program
- Work directly with administrators in all departments to ensure student growth is being monitored and that instructional decisions are based on various assessments.
- Work with the Chinese Curriculum Director to ensure the Chinese National Curriculum is being implemented.
- Work closely with the Admissions department to understand what the academic and linguistic benchmarks are and accept students with those benchmarks in mind.
- Be available to meet with and support parents in their understanding of the school’s program and what they can do at home to support student learning.
- Work collaboratively with the Co-Head of Kindergarten and Co-Head of Elementary School to ensure a one school, three divisions approach to school-wide programing.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and the Chief Academic Officer (CAO).
