AISZ Director Announcement 

Dear Search Associates Colleagues,

On behalf of the American International School of Zagreb, in Croatia, we are pleased to announce that Dr. Darin Fahrney has been appointed as the new Director beginning in August 2025.  

Dr. Fahrney is currently serving in his second year as the Coordinator for Strategic Initiatives and Learning Support at the American International School of Zagreb. His past leadership experiences include serving at the Singapore American School as the Chief Academic Officer (PK-12), High School Principal and Learning Support Coordinator/Deputy Principal (PK-12).  Dr. Fahrney also served as a High School Principal and Gifted and Talented Coordinator in Wisconsin, USA.

Dr. Fahrney holds a Bachelor of Science: Biology & Broadfield Science from the University of Wisconsin Stevens Point, USA, a Master of Science: Environmental Education from the University of Wisconsin Stevens Point, USA, a Master of Arts: Educational Leadership and a Ph.D. in Educational Leadership from Marian University, USA. Additionally, he holds the following certifications: Superintendent, Director of Curriculum, Special Education and Principal.

The AISZ Search Committee selected Dr. Fahrney from an extensive, highly experienced, and qualified group of candidates based on his significant past leadership experience and his contributions to AISZ in his present leadership role.  The AISZ Search Committee, shared the following about Dr. Fahrney’s candidacy and appointment: Dr. Fahrney’s expertise and experience align perfectly with the AISZ Faculty and Staff’s outstanding work, the strategic goals of the AISZ Board of Trustees, and our commitment to high-level learning for all students. The board is excited about his appointment and look forward to him starting his position as the school celebrates its 60th anniversary in 2025/2026.

Dr. Fahrney is eager to move into the Director position and to continue his leadership work at ASIZ. In response to his appointment, Dr. Fahrney shared: I am truly honored to have been appointed as the next Director at AISZ. Our strong tradition of excellence, extraordinary care for students and vibrant school community provide an exceptional foundation to support our great school becoming even better. The future is bright for AISZ as we approach the 60th anniversary of our founding. I look forward to leading our community as we write the next exciting chapter of our inspirational story.
