Dear Colleagues and Friends,

On behalf of the Board of Directors and Search Committee of the American International School of Guangzhou in Guangzhou, China, we are pleased to announce that Mr. Kevin Baker has been appointed Director beginning in August 2019.

Mr. Baker is currently Head of School at Busan International Foreign School in Busan, Korea where he has served since 2014. He has also held head of school and other administrative positions at Seoul Foreign school, Hong Kong International School, and at other independent schools in the USA.

Mr. Baker earned a BS in Secondary Education from Concordia College in Seward, Nebraska, an MS in Educational Administration from Washington State University in Pullman, WA, and is currently completing a Ph.D. in Human Capital Management at Bellevue University in Bellevue, NE.

School Overview

The American International School of Guangzhou is registered in the People’s Republic of China as a School for Foreign Children, and offers a full educational program from Preschool to Grade 12. Our school is located across two campuses. The Er Sha Island Campus is home to our Pre-School and Elementary students, while our Middle and High School students are located at the Science Park Campus.

AISG is a member of the Council of International Schools (CIS), the East Asia Regional Council of Schools (EARCOS), and the Association of China and Mongolia International Schools (ACAMIS). AISG is also accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC), and therefore grants a U.S High School Diploma to its graduates. In addition, AISG is accredited by China’s Ministry of Education, the National Center for Curriculum Study and Textbook Development (NCCT). The NCCT remains the only accreditation-related agency approved by the Chinese Ministry of Education to enact a process for schools seeking both international and Chinese accreditation.

Position Description

The American International School of Guangzhou (AISG), a school for students ages Pre-K through Grade 12, seeks a Director effective July 1, 2019. Set across two campuses, AISG is regarded as the Premier International School of Guangzhou. It is the school of choice for expatriate families in Guangzhou who seek an exceptional education in an international environment. Established in 1981, AISG is the first international school in South China, and the only not for profit school in Guangzhou. We are a diverse, private, co-educational day school, offering an international curriculum, guided by American educational values and principles.
