On behalf of the Board of Thuringia International School in Weimar, Germany, we are pleased to announce the appointment of the school’s new Director, following a lengthy and wide-ranging global search led by Search Associates.
Mr Matthew Raggett will take over as Director in July 2023.
Matthew Raggett is British, and has a BSc degree in Applied Mathematics and Theoretical Physics from the University of Newcastle, UK and an MBA in Educational Leadership from Charles Sturt University, New South Wales, Australia. His career record over 25 years in international education has been impressive. After a few years teaching in the UK he moved in 1998 to his first overseas job as Head of Physics at Vienna International School, working subsequently at Pearson United World College of the Pacific, British Columbia, Canada and the United World College of South East Asia, Singapore. In 2007 he returned to Europe as Head of Boarding at King’s College, The British School of Madrid, Spain, before serving for 7 years from 2009 to 2016 at Leipzig International School, Germany, as Secondary School Principal (and Acting Head of School in 2013-2014). He was then invited to become Headmaster and CEO of The Doon School, a prestigious boys’ boarding school in Dehradun, India (2016-2020). He is currently Director of Education at VITALIS, a residential vocational training and professional development centre in Leipzig for teachers, trainers and students coming from across Europe under the EU’s Erasmus+ Programme.
Matthew and his wife Lindsay (who is also an accomplished educator) have three children, two adult sons and a daughter who is currently studying for her IB Diploma at Leipzig International School.
The Chairman of the Board, Herbert Stütz, has written to the school community as follows: “The ThIS Board and leadership team will work closely with Matthew in the coming months to prepare for a seamless leadership transition. We are convinced that Matthew, with his expertise and experience, will continue the course of stability and set new accents for the development of the school”.
