Dear colleagues

On behalf of the International School of IITA in Ibadan, Nigeria, I am glad to announce the appointment of the school’s new Head, following a lengthy global search.

Mr Timothy Shepherd will take over as Head of School in August 2024.

Timothy (Tim) Shepherd is a British citizen.   His qualifications include a National Diploma in Agriculture from Plumpton Agricultural College, UK, an open (multidisciplinary) B.Sc degree from the Open University, UK and a Certificate of International School Leadership from the Principals’ Training Center.

After five years at the start of his career working as an agriculture instructor and farm technician at Brymore School, UK, Tim moved to the International School of Lausanne, Switzerland, as a science and theatre technician and buildings, grounds and facilities manager.     He subsequently taught ESL at Regent’s School, Bangkok, Thailand, and then from 2008 to 2016 taught PYP and Early Years at the International School of Estonia.   From 2016 to 2019 he served at Raffles American School, Johor, Malaysia, first as a Grade 2 teacher and then as Elementary Principal.  He then had two positions as Head of School in Guangzhou, China, first at Utahloy Language Centre and then at Britannia International School.     Since 2022 he has been Head of School at Stepping Stones International School in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, where he has successfully increased student enrolment and managed a move to a new purpose-built campus.    Having much enjoyed his first experience of headship in Africa he was keen to find a similar opportunity and was particularly attracted by the role at the International School of IITA because of his own background in agriculture.

Tim has a wide range of interests, particularly in outdoor activities – including farming, rugby (he is a qualified coach and referee, and a former President of the Estonian Rugby Union), sailing, skiing and motorcycling.    He is married to Michelle, who currently teaches IB Chemistry and Biology at the International School of Lusaka, Zambia.   They have two adult children who both live in the UK.   Tim and Michelle are eagerly looking forward to starting their new lives in Ibadan.

The IITA community and Search Associates wish to thank each of the candidates who expressed interest in this important position, and also everyone who has contributed to the success of our extensive search process over the past seven months.

Best wishes

David
