On behalf of the Uskudar American Academy (UAA) community, we are pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Cory Carson as the next Head of School (HoS) of UAA, Istanbul, Turkey beginning in August 2024. In his recent message to the UAA school community, Professor and Dr. Güray Erkol (CEO of SEV) wrote the following about Mr. Carson’s appointment to the UAA community:
It is my pleasure to inform you that Mr. Cory Carson has been appointed as the next Head of School (HoS) of UAA starting as of August 2024. Mr. Carson has earned his Ed.S. degree in Educational Administration from the University of Nebraska, his MA degree in Secondary Education from the University of Alabama, and a B.Ed degree in Secondary Science from the University of Alberta.
Mr. Carson is currently serving as the HoS at Global Jaya School in Indonesia since 2019. Before that he was the Acting Director and High School Principal at Qatar Academy, Doha for five years. He was the Secondary School Principal of MEF International, Istanbul between 2010-2014. Moreover, he was the Secondary School Principal at Santa Cruz Cooperative School in Bolivia, twice serving for a total of four years. He worked as mathematics and science teacher as well as a generalist at various high schools in Brazil, Bolivia, Ecuador, and Canada during his earlier career. Mr. Carson has vast knowledge on IBDP as well as various school accreditation processes.
The international search was conducted by Search Associates, which specializes in the field of education, and was overseen by the UAA Search Committee with input from a broad array of community stakeholders inclusive of teachers, parents, students, administrators and support staff. Due to his professional and personal qualities, as well as his broad administrative and curricular experiences, Mr. Carson was selected from a large group of qualified applicants.
In accepting the HoS position, Mr. Carson stated he is well aware of the strengths of UAA, and he will continue to develop and grow these strengths over the coming years. For Mr. Carson, the well-being and best possible development of each and every student is paramount. He is looking forward to engaging fully in supporting staff, students, and families at UAA in the years ahead.
