Brief description:

The Lower School Interim Assistant Principal is charged with assisting the Lower School Principal with the management, development, support and evaluation of the educational programme of the Lower School.

Profile: (training, experience, skills and aptitudes necessary to do the job)

  • A passionate educator with experience teaching and/or leading in an international school;
  • Experience and training in the IB PYP programme required;
  • Demonstrated leadership with supporting staff professional and personal needs;
  • Demonstrated awareness of and conversant with current research and best practices in the education primary age students;
  • Recent successful experience working in a collaborative teaching environment;
  • Technologically competent in appropriate resources and platforms;
  • Master’s Degree or equivalent in an appropriate field of study (preferred);
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills;
  • Fluent in English (near native level) and preferably with a second language (French or German an advantage);
  • Understanding of and experience with students and parents who are English Language Learners.

Among main responsibilities:

  • Inspire and encourage the highest possible standards of achievement and behaviour from students and staff;
  • Take an active role within the ISL Leadership Team to nurture a whole school vision and structure for the PYP and its articulation;
  • Ensure assessment and curriculum development is in line with ISL standards and benchmarks, the ISL student profile and ISL mission, vision and philosophy statements;
  • Provide leadership in planning, developing and documenting the curriculum, including monitoring its effectiveness in the classroom and approving materials and equipment requested;
  • Support, supervise and evaluate Lower School teachers as directed by the Lower School Principal;
  • Provide support and guidance to Grade Level Leadership and classroom teachers including decision making, and recommending instructional resources
  • Lead collaboration between parents and ISL; supporting parent understanding of PYP education through workshops and information sessions
  • In conjunction with the Lower School Leadership Team, assist with the identification, planning and execution of professional development opportunities for staff related to the development and implementation of the academic and social / emotional programmes;
  • Help with external standardised testing and share responsibility for the accurate preparation and maintenance of assessment data, and long-term academic tracking of Lower School students;
  • Be aware of and conversant with current research and best practices in the education of early elementary and elementary age students;
  • Assist the Lower School Principal, as appropriate, in preparing the budget and on other matters as the need arises;
  • Take an active part in Lower School meetings in the areas of delegated responsibility;
  • Deputise for the Lower School Deputy Principal in their absence, if required;
  • Actively seek own personal professional development opportunities;
  • Such other duties as may be assigned by the Lower School Principal or the Director.
