Search Associates is pleased that Tsinghua University High School International at Chaoyang (THSI - Chaoyang) has joined its registry of international schools. Established in 2015, THSI is a distinctively-designed and well-maintained boarding school. The brand new campus is located in Forest Green Park in a beautiful environment, close to the subway and within the Olympic Complex in central Beijing. Housing for teachers--as well as a variety of international restaurants and shops--is nearby. THSI - Chaoyang is affiliated with the International Association of Laboratory Schools as well as the Chaoyang Education Committee and is seeking accreditation through Western Association of Schools & Colleges (WASC).
High test scores and satisfied faculty testify to the strong academic standards of THSI. The school is already developing a reputation for its professionalism, its dedication to transparency in communication, collaboration with parents. College counseling is a major focus, preparing a majority of its students to attend colleges and universities in the English-speaking world. As a result, most of the school’s graduates attend institutions in North America while others consider studying in Europe, Asia, and Australia. Each year, the school hosts recruiting visits from approximately 30 representatives from post-secondary institutions.
Currently enrolled are 530 pre-K-12 boarding students, all of whom are Chinese. By fifth grade, students are prepared for English-only instruction. In addition to acquiring an American-style, college prep education, students are offered Advanced Placement (AP) courses in high school. The teaching staff of 47 includes 31 from North America and the U.K and 16 from China. The diverse faculty includes teachers from Germany, Greece, the Philippines and South Africa.
After school and into the evening, the school describes itself as “alive with student clubs and organizations.” Student Council, Community Service Club, Dance Club, and Tennis Club provide opportunities to develop life skills and practice leadership roles. Sports teams, which compete against other international schools, include tennis, basketball, swimming, and rugby. A variety of festivals and celebrations punctuate the year, culminating with the THSI Carnival in June, which draws hundreds of visitors. The school community enjoys both Western and Chinese holidays.
THSI - Chaoyang is interested hiring married couples and single teachers, with or without dependents, as well as interns. There are local employment opportunities for non-teaching spouses. The school will consider exceptional newly-certified teachers as well as outstanding certified teachers from non-English speaking countries. However, candidates must hold an academic degree in the subject they will be teaching. Certified teachers up to the age of 60 may obtain a work visa.
THSI – Chaoyang’s salary and benefits package would allow for substantial savings, and a family of four could ‘make do’ on one salary. The school provides one annual roundtrip airfare as well as free tuition for one child. Also provided are three meals per work day. A settling-in and housing allowance are awarded, and furniture is provided by the landlord. The comprehensive insurance package covers major medical—worldwide and local—vision, a wellness visit, and emergency evacuation. Finally, THSI - Chaoyang will subsidize the tuition cost for teachers who want to pursue a Master’s or doctoral degree while teaching at the school.
