A Ribbon Cutting for the American School of Hong Kong

The soon-to-open American School of Hong Kong (ASHK) has joined the many exemplary schools registered with Search Associates. The school is overseen by Esol Education, an international education organization with 40 years of expertise in establishing and operating international schools worldwide. Set to open as a K-6 school in September 2016, ASHK will add a middle school in 2017 and a high school in 2018. The school will offer the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma and is in the process of accreditation by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools (MSA).

ASHK is located in the Tai Pao district, a 30-minute drive from Central Hong Kong, close to the MTR station and among beautiful, green hills where fresh air and open space abounds. The site, a vacated campus granted to ASHK by the Education Bureau, is currently undergoing a $140 million renovation, sure to transform it into one of the most modern and stunning international schools!

Currently registered at ASHK are 180 K-5 and 20 6-8 students of 10 nationalities. Of those, 30 are North American; 20 are from the U.K., and 15 are Chinese. The staff of 24 teachers includes 15 from N. America, 6 from the U.K., and 3 from China.

ASHK is interested in hiring married teaching couples and single teachers, with or without dependents. While the school does not prefer married teachers with non-teaching spouses, they mention local opportunities for them. Additionally, ASHK will consider applications of outstanding newly-certified teachers. Work visas will be issued to certified teachers up to the age of 65; however, all documents must be certified and notarized in the teacher's home country.

The school offers an excellent salary in addition to a generous housing and moving-in allowance. Annually, teachers are provided with $1,000 airfare for a round-trip out of Hong Kong. Tuition is free for one child per teaching parent. ASHK provides worldwide health insurance and a retirement plan in which the school contributes five percent. This salary and benefits package provides a fantastic opportunity for substantial savings or the ability of a family of four to 'make-do' on one salary.
