Canadian College Italy: A Unique Overseas Teaching Experience

Imagine waking up to the scent of fresh espresso, walking past centuries-old palazzos on your way to class, and spending weekends exploring the rolling vineyards, mountain trails, and sun-soaked beaches of Italy. Teaching overseas is always an adventure—but at Canadian College Italy (CCI), it’s something truly extraordinary.

Founded in 1995 by an Ontario teacher who believed in the transformative power of living abroad, CCI is an Ontario-accredited boarding school that pushes students—and educators—to grow beyond their comfort zones. With small class sizes, a supportive community, and an emphasis on cultural immersion, it’s more than just a school—it’s a life-changing experience.

At CCI, you’ll be part of a close-knit, international learning environment where adventure, curiosity, and lifelong learning are at the heart of everything we do. With class sizes of around 10 students, teachers develop meaningful connections with both students and colleagues, fostering an atmosphere where learning thrives.

At CCI, you’ll be part of a close-knit, international learning environment where adventure, curiosity, and lifelong learning are at the heart of everything we do. With class sizes of around 10 students, teachers develop meaningful connections with both students and colleagues, fostering an atmosphere where learning thrives.

The school follows the Ontario Secondary School curriculum, preparing students for top universities around the world. Half of CCI students hail from North America (primarily Canada and the U.S.), while the other half come from across Europe, creating a dynamic and globally minded community.

CCI is nestled in Lanciano, a historic town more than 600 years older than Rome, offering a perfect balance of old-world charm and modern convenience. Here, educators enjoy a slower, more fulfilling pace of life, immersed in Italian culture while still having everything they need at their fingertips.

Teachers live in private, fully equipped apartments within walking distance of the school, allowing them to become part of the local community—greeting the same friendly barista every morning, joining locals for aperitivo in the piazza, and embracing the rhythms of Italian life.

The Abruzzo region, home to Lanciano, is famous for its world-class cuisine, award-winning wines, and stunning natural landscapes. Whether you’re hiking in the Apennine mountains, skiing in the winter, or relaxing on the Adriatic beaches, there’s always an adventure waiting. And with Pescara Airport just 35 minutes away, European weekend getaways are easy.

Though Lanciano’s streets echo with history, CCI’s campus is state-of-the-art, blending modern education with historic charm. Housed in a 14th-century palazzo, classrooms are equipped with fiber-optic internet and interactive smart screens.

Education at CCI extends far beyond the classroom. The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award program is the backbone of the school’s extracurricular program, encouraging students to develop resilience, leadership, and independence through activities, skills and service. Popular options include cycling, tennis, swimming, sailing, yoga, photography, pottery, soccer, cooking, fashion and more. The sense of community at CCI is strong, with everyone encouraged to share their passions.

CCI is an accredited school that hires only Ontario-certified teachers. It welcomes both experienced educators and newly certified teachers, as well as teaching couples, who are eager to embark on a once-in-a-lifetime teaching journey. With no age limit for obtaining a work visa, CCI offers opportunities for early-career teachers and seasoned educators alike who are seeking a fresh adventure in an inspiring international setting.
