On behalf of Mr. Earl Chamberlin, Head of School of the International Community School (ICS), Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, Search Associates is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Colin Powell as next Elementary School Principal at ICS, commencing in August 2025. Mr. Chamberlin shared the following in his announcement to the ICS community.
Colin brings a wealth of experience and a global perspective to our school. Born in the United States, Colin has spent his life as a guest in various countries.
Prior to his current position as Head of Primary at the International School of Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, Colin served as both Primary Years Programme Coordinator and Assistant Principal in Lithuania as well as Director of Learning and Teaching at in Qatar. His rich teaching background includes classrooms in China, Sri Lanka, and Lithuania. Colin shares his excitement about his next adventure:
I am thrilled to be joining ICS Addis Ababa because of the school's reputation for its focus on personalized learning in a warm and nurturing environment.
As a young man, Colin graduated from the International School of Tanganyika (IST) with an International Baccalaureate Diploma, laying the foundation for a life in international education. He earned his undergraduate degree at Simon Fraser University, Canada followed by a graduate diploma and master’s degree from the University of Southern Queensland in Australia. This international school administrator, and global citizen, is inspired by the words of Charles Darwin: "It is not the strongest of the species that survives, nor the most intelligent, but the one most responsive to change."
Accompanying Colin to Ethiopia is his wife Jenny, born and raised in Canada, and their two children Dylan (14) and Sam (12). In his free time, Colin enjoys being outdoors doing things that bring people together, such as fishing, camping or swimming. Colin loves cooking and eating with his family.
