International School of Central Switzerland: Helping Every Learner Shine

Immerse yourself in an intimate setting amid the Swiss world of innovation! The International School of Central Switzerland (ISOCS) is now included in Search Associates' catalog of superior schools. The campus, five minutes from the Cham train station, is near the town of Zug and 25 minutes from Lucerne and Zurich. The school was purpose-built in a brand new development called Lorzenpark, which also includes the facilities of innovative leaders Tesla Motors and Specialized Bicycle Components. The local authorities grant ISCS use of the modern gymnasiums, pool, and full-size soccer pitches within the complex.

ISOCS is an accredited school with a diverse student population. Now an International Baccalaureate (IB) World School and NEASC Candidate School, ISCS was established in 2009 as a primary school and launched a middle school in 2012. Currently K-12 students of 20 nationalities study the IB curriculum on a Swiss school schedule, Wednesday afternoons off to take part in clubs and activities. Students range from age 3 to age 12. Twenty of the students are from North America and the U.K. A teaching staff of 20 includes two Swiss nationals, in addition to nine staff from the U.K and North America.

ISOCS has three core values they stand by—to involve, innovate, and inspire. The school wants to help every learner shine, and aspires to continue to grow in the next 5-10 years to reach out to learners of all ages around the globe. According to the ISOCS website, the school's values include involving the entire community in learning, using innovation as a learning process, and inspiring "through reflection and meaningful action."

ISOCS will consider all outstanding certified applicants and will discuss the "economic viability of their situation" with candidates. Teachers may obtain a work visa up to the age of 57; however, the school notes that "work permits are restricted to Swiss citizens, EU passport holders, or spouses of Swiss work permit holders."

ISOCS provides certain benefits to teachers, in addition to their salary. The school contributes a generous 6% to a retirement plan. Children receive full tuition benefits. ISOCS provides accident insurance coverage to all staff members, though all Swiss residents are required by law to procure private health insurance. Regional (Cantonal) benefits include child subsidies and tax reduction for public transportation.
