International School Opportunities in Kazakhstan

Search Associates welcomes the vibrant Haileybury Astana (HAS), an international K–12 day school established in 2011. So much more than the leading academic institution in Astana, HAS is a community of excellence at the heart of the city. The school is located in a residential district on the right bank of the River Ishim, next to President's Park. Thanks to this convenient location, HAS can be accessed easily from both banks as well as from the business district of Astana, Kazakhstan’s fast growing and developing capital city.

Due to its unique location between Europe and Asia, Kazakhstan has a rich, complex history and a unique culture that is a blend of east and west. Yet the country is not too far from Europe; in less than seven hours, one could fly to London. Astana, with its futuristic skyline, is a former Soviet city that has undergone a huge makeover and is now rebranding itself as a cosmopolitan metropolis at the heart of central Asia. The capital city is also a convenient launching point for exploring the rest of Kazakhstan.

HAS currently enrolls 555 students of 30 nationalities, 70% of whom are Kazakh and 25% of whom hail from North America and the U.K. HAS is proud its teaching staff of 70, who engage their pupils in a wide range of exceptional learning opportunities. While 17 members of staff are from Kazakhstan, 45 come from North America and the U.K. The curriculum model, using both the English National Curriculum and the International Baccalaureate (IB), provides an outstanding holistic education, far surpassing minimum requirements and covering a diverse range of subjects. The latest assessment results show that students have risen to demanding learning targets, and have done “exceptionally well” as a result of a strong partnership between HAS, the students and their parents. The school proudly says,

“When families join Haileybury Astana they become lifelong members of an institution, which puts the child at the centre of everything. Our not-for-profit status means that every dollar we charge is reinvested in the students and the school. The high quality teaching and excellent extra-curricular provision make Haileybury Astana a very special place to be."

HAS also boasts excellent facilities, including a 25-meter swimming pool, tennis and basketball courts, soccer field, dance studio, modern playgrounds, and two sports halls.

HAS is interested in hiring singles, couples, and interns. The school will also consider couples with a non-teaching spouse. While HAS will consider exceptional, newly certified teachers, all candidates must be certified from an English-speaking country and possess an academic degree in the subject they will teach. There is no age limit to obtain a work visa in Kazakhstan.

The salary and benefits package at HAS includes a salary not subject to tax, a generous monthly housing stipend, and a moving allowance at the beginning and end of the contract. Each year, the school pays for one round-trip airfare per teacher. Up to three children receive a full tuition benefit, and the school contributes 10% of a teacher’s annual salary to a retirement plan. Worldwide health insurance, except the U.S., is fully covered and includes emergency evacuation. Professional development is provided as well. The HAS package allows for fantastic savings or the opportunity for family of four to live on one salary.

In a nutshell, Haileybury Astana is a challenging and yet exhilarating place to learn, develop, and explore, for both students and teachers.
