International Teaching in the Glorious City of Hangzhou!

Teach abroad and join Dingwen Academy Hangzhou (DWA or Dingwen), a K-12 bilingual school scheduled to open September 2024 in the scenic Qiantang District of Hangzhou, in East China. The school, whose full size will serve 2,800 students drawn from China and overseas, offers a 15-year, K-12 educational program that integrates China’s national curriculum and international curriculum, culminating with the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme. Boarding facilities for up to 1,800 students as well as on-campus accommodation for staff members create a genuinely international community within and outside the classroom.

Dingwen’s educational program seeks to infuse young minds with a deep understanding of Chinese culture together and a global outlook, preparing them to be responsible and broadminded leaders. To achieve this ideal, DWA is committed to a forward-thinking curriculum; a safe, pleasant, and stimulating environment; first-class facilities; professionally functioning services; and most importantly, inspired and conscientious people.

Hangzhou, located in Zhejiang Province, is known as the hub of economy, culture, research, and education within a thriving and diverse region of China. Spanning 16,850 square kilometers, Hangzhou is home to 11,936,000, making it an ideal place for various events and opportunities without being overwhelming. The city's culture is influenced by surrounding bodies of water: the powerful Qiantang River, the picturesque West Lake, and the Grand Canal connecting it to Beijing. It is also considered one of the great national historical and cultural towns, famous throughout China for its beauty.

Overseas teaching with easy access to the bustling city of Hangzhou offers plenty of diversion: culinary delights from both China and around the world; shopping centers, malls, and stores of every type; well-maintained, up-to-date sports facilities—for basketball, football, tennis, swimming, and more—that attract amateur and professional athletes as well as tourists; and many parks and open spaces.

Student accommodationDWA is conveniently located 30 minutes by car from both Hangzhou East Railway Station and Hangzhou Xiaoshan International Airport. Additionally, Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport is a quick two-hour drive away from the school which acts as a hub to many international destinations.

Dingwen campus rests in a beautiful natural and cultural setting near the Qiantang River and a historic canal, a picturesque golf course, and the biggest university town in Zhejiang Province. The school is deeply influenced by this historical yet innovative environment, blending Chinese traditions with modern society to provide a holistic experience for international teachers.

DWA has been following the highest construction standards while building their state-of-the-art campus. The 177,800 square meters of indoor space comprises teaching buildings, a building complex, an International Exchange Center, three libraries, and separate residential halls for students and staff. Facilities for athletic, intellectual, and creative activities house a 50-meter, eight-lane swimming pool; an 800-seat auditorium; a 400-square-meter black box theater; and a 2,500-square-meter library. The school plans to finish overall construction by March 2024.

Staff accommodationCertified by the Chinese Ministry of Education and AdvancEd/Cognia, Dingwen seeks accreditation with the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC).

DWA offers outstanding extracurricular programs and boarding facilities to foster emotional, social, physical, and intellectual growth, along with the integration of Eastern and Western styles of teaching.

DWA hires singles and couples of diverse profiles interested in overseas teaching, including newly certified candidates and seasoned teachers without certification. They will consider couples with a non-teaching partner. Candidates need not hold an academic degree in the subject they will be teaching. As per government regulations, those up to the age of 60 may obtain a work visa.

The international teaching benefits package includes the following:

  • A highly competitive salary
  • A moving allowance
  • Fully furnished housing
  • Annual round-trip airfare
  • Private medical insurance

Additionally, tuition is free for two children. School lunches, the coffee bar, and the use of school shuttle buses and gyms are also gratis. DWA provides professional development (PD) opportunities through PD days, IB training, and a PD fund.
