International Teaching Positions in India

Founded in 1961, DSB International School (DSB) is proud to have been the first international school in Mumbai. This kindergarten through Year 13 day school originally catered to the German community, but since 2000, the school has been serving local and international students from 40 countries. DSB comprises two campuses: Garden Campus, for kindergarten to Year 4; and Aurum House, for Years 5 to 13. Both campuses offer modern spaces and state-of-the-art equipment, specially designed to facilitate cross-curricular and collaborative as well as independent learning. DSB’s International Baccalaureate (IB) students enjoy the privilege of a brand-new purpose-built IB Center, with individual workspaces for independent study and breakout teaching spaces for small group work. The school also takes pride in its fully-fitted Design & Technology Studio, rooftop sports facilities, well-resourced art studio, and state-of-the-art science laboratories designed and made in Germany. DSB also benefits from being immersed in the rich and diverse cultural environment of the booming city of Mumbai.

DSB enrolls 201 students, 36% from India and 24% from North America and the U.K. Accredited by Council of British International Schools, the school delivers the British national curriculum through inquiry-based learning, culminating with the International General Certificate of Secondary Education. Students in Years 12 and 13 have the option of enrolling in the IB Diploma Programme. Half of the teaching staff of 45 is from India with the other half from the U.K. and North America.

Each term, in addition to service activities, DSB offers creative, cultural, sporting, and adventure after-school activities. Students participate in inter-scholastic competitions in swimming, netball, and football. In secondary school, trekking and long-distance running are quite popular. Other offerings to get active include the fitness and running club, martial arts, jazz dance, swimming club, rappelling, and camping. Students are also encouraged to make music a key part of their lives by participating in the choir, forming their own bands, and/or organizing music for school events. Additionally, students can study guitar and join music clubs, while artists are supported in developing exhibitions of their work. DSB sends delegates to local Model UN conferences as well as the Council of British International Schools Model UN and the Harvard Model Conference Europe. Community service opportunities include Welfare for Stray Dogs (WSD), reading sessions with primary school students, and working with a variety of charities.

DSB prefers to hire single teachers and teaching interns, but they will consider teaching couples, including those who are not married. The school will also consider exceptional, newly-certified teachers, those certified in non-English speaking countries, and outstanding experienced teachers who lack certification. All candidates must hold an academic degree in the subject they will be teaching. India issues work visas up to the age of 58.

The DSB benefits package allows for savings, even for interns! The school provides housing costs, a one-time moving allowance, and round-trip airfare every year. Tuition for up to two children and local health insurance––including long-term disability and life insurance––is fully covered. Each year, DSB designates seven days of professional development for staff. The school also contributes 12% to a retirement plan.
