Opened in 1948, Marymount is a Catholic, all-girls, pre-K through grade 11 school located in a prosperous and safe area in Bogotá. Marymount has been an International Baccalaureate (IB) World School since 2005. The school is warm and supportive: From the first day of teacher orientation and training, staff members go out of their way to not only welcome new hires to the community but also help them prepare for their new positions.
The school’s location is convenient for local and foreign teachers, with many options for apartments, shopping, and restaurants within a short distance from the school. Teachers do not need personal transportation to be comfortable; nearly everything they need can be found close by.
The modern and diverse campus has been thoughtfully designed for academics, creativity, sport, and recreation. Marymount is particularly proud of its recently-added Roble Building, home to preschool and primary school classes.
Accredited by the Colombian Ministry of Education and ICONTEC ISO-9001, Marymount is a bilingual school of Spanish and English, with a mostly Colombian student body and an average class size of 24. Recently, the school has introduced Portuguese as a third language. Currently enrolled are 1,000 pre-K through Grade 11, which is the last year of high school for students in Colombia. The teaching staff of 120 includes 116 Colombian educators.
Marymount’s after-school Hobbies and Skills Programme offers diverse opportunities for girls of every grade level to get inspired, get active, get empowered, and deepen their knowledge. Choices of art, sport, and academic activities provide students with opportunities for collaboration, critical thinking, problem solving using multiple solutions, character formation, global and multi-perspective citizenship, communication skills, and creativity.
Marymount is interested in certified single teachers—including those who are newly-certified—as well as interns. Teachers must have an academic degree in the subject they will be teaching, and there is no age limit to obtain a work visa.
The benefits package includes a settling-in and annual housing allowance along with some basic furniture and appliances. Also provided is the cost of airfare at the start and end of contract as well as an annual stipend for roundtrip airfare. As per Colombian law, the school contributes 12% toward a retirement plan. Marymount also awards full tuition for one daughter. Professional development (PD) offerings include an annual program for bilingual teachers, annual participation in school programs, and, after a teacher’s second year with the school, a cash support percentage toward other PD opportunities. Local health insurance is fully covered. Other bonuses include up to 15 days at a hotel at the start of employment, transportation to and from school, school lunch and morning snack for the teacher, a re-signing bonus at the beginning of one’s third school year, participation on curricular trips, use of the campus gym and health services, and Spanish lessons at school. This package is a chance for some savings.
