Kjeld-Jørgen Glittenberg Appointed Next Director of ASA

On behalf of the Board of Trustees of the American School of Antananarivo (ASA) in Madagascar, Search Associates is pleased to announce that Mr. Kjeld-Jørgen Glittenberg has been appointed as ASA’s next Director, to commence in August 2025.

Current Director of the American School of Yaoundé, Cameroon, Jørgen holds a master’s in educational administration from Michigan State University and over 20 years of experience working in and leading International Baccalaureate (IB) schools in Africa, Asia, Europe, and South America. As an active member of the International Baccalaureate Educator Network (IBEN), Jørgen assumes a variety of roles. He shares his eagerness for this next chapter:

I am honored to be ASA’s next Director, and my wife and I are excited to join this vibrant and welcoming community. I look forward to being a part of the school's path forward as it embraces being a three-program IB World School.

A Norwegian citizen and permanent resident of the United States, Jørgen was raised as a “third-culture kid” and a product of an international education in Kenya and Austria. This is a “real” interest of his as his own children have been raised as third-culture kids. Jørgen feels grateful and privileged to be in international schools:

Learning that happens outside of the classroom is key to shaping the students into the adults that they become in the future. My fondest memories as a teacher and as a leader have centered around traveling with students: working with the Maasai Wildlife Conservation Trust on creating sustainable conservation in the Chyulu Hills in Amboseli-Tsavo in Kenya and traveling to Chaco Province in northernmost Argentina to work with the indigenous population to build schools.

Joining Jørgen at ASA is his wife, Jennifer Glittenberg, an experienced IB teacher and counselor. They love spending time with family, traveling, and getting to know all about the country where they work. They cannot wait to explore Madagascar—the country and their local community!

Search Associates would like to thank all the candidates who applied for this position, and to everyone who assisted and supported the successful search process for the next Director at the American School of Antananarivo. Jørgen adds,

I would like to express my appreciation to the Board of Trustees at ASA for offering me this opportunity. Also, thank you to Search Associates for their valuable support throughout this process.”
