Overseas Teaching Opportunities in Guangzhou

Guangzhou International Primary School Baiyun ZWIE (ZWIE), established 10 years ago, enrolls 660 mostly Chinese students in Grades K–12. Located in a green environment within a high-end community, ZWIE is close to the Nanhu Park beneath the Baiyun Mountains, but only 30 minutes away from downtown Guangzhou.

The parent organization, Zhongshan Whampoa International Education, has developed a series of programs aimed at cultivating learners’ holistic development while promoting its schools’ academic excellence and positive social impact. The school says,

Through innovation and wisdom, ZWIE centers on cultivating minds-on, hearts-on, hands-on, and body-on life-long learners, international communicators, and future creators of both oriental ethics wisdom and Western scientific spirit, so as to achieve self-realization and social benefit.

Based on experience accumulated for over a decade, ZWIE aims to contribute to Chinese education through the optimization and promotion of international education as well as through supporting Chinese education reform. More importantly, it wishes to create an innovative education model in China.

While ZWIE delivers the traditional Chinese curriculum, it is also authorized to deliver the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (IB PYP). With the supervision of professionals on its Advisory Board, ZWIE is striving to combine the national compulsory curriculum with internationally renowned curricula, such as the International Baccalaureate and the Cambridge International Examinations. Its teaching staff of 59 comprises nine teachers from North America and the U.K. along with 50 from China. The school offers boarding to all grade levels.

At ZWIE, a wide range of after-school clubs and classes cater to each student's tastes and needs. School staff members, particularly the teachers, are highly devoted to the students and their learning.

ZWIE is most interested in hiring single teachers but would consider couples—including those with a non-teaching partner—, interns, those certified in non-English speaking countries, and exceptional newly-certified teachers. However, all candidates must be certified and hold their academic degree in the subject they will be teaching. Teachers under the age of 55 may obtain a work visa.

Benefits include a monthly housing stipend, annual airfare, and a settling-in allowance. The tuition benefit is 30%. Worldwide health coverage is offered, with the employee paying a percentage of the premium. Teachers receive IB PYP training, and in coming semesters, the school will offer a cross-cultural training program as well as Chinese culture and language training. Single teachers could see substantial savings.
