This not-for-profit school for students in Grades 6–12 was built in 2006 by the Phu My Hung Development Corporation, two years before the school opened its doors to students.
Teachers and students enjoy a variety of learning spaces: 55 well-appointed classrooms, fully equipped with computers, projectors, sound systems, air-conditioning systems, and Wi-Fi systems; modern laboratories for physics, chemistry, and biology; a 555 square-meter library with thousands of books; both indoor and outdoor gymnasiums; an outdoor swimming pool; a multifunctional sport hall; creative spaces with computer science labs, a Maker-lab, and a studio for programming, robotics, and filmmaking. The LSTS auditorium, with its capacity for 400 people, features high level sound and lighting systems which serve events such as academic exchanges, concerts, workshops, and art performances. A modern dormitory is home to students from other provinces.
LSTS was named after the late President of CT&D Group and Phu My Hung Development Corporation – Mr. Lawrence S. Ting (whose Vietnamese name is Dinh Thien Ly). Mr. Ting was awarded the Vietnam Friendship Medal from State President Nguyen Minh Triet on December 28th, 2007.
With the vision “to be a leading school in Vietnam that can connect to the world with globally competitive citizens equipped with vision, leadership, and a spirit of service” and the mission “to provide a comprehensive and challenging academic program that will prepare our students for a rapidly changing world and to develop committed life-long learners ready for the responsibilities and expectations of global citizenship,” the school always aims to orient students to obtain six core values “Excellence, Responsibility, Respect, Honesty, Service, Balance” on their journey of learning and exploring.
LSTS incorporates the academic program set by the Vietnam Education and Training Program. The school's educational program is organized into the orientation of expanding and improving academic knowledge (the Extended Curriculum); fostering students' skills (the Core Curriculum) and enhancing students' personalities and qualities (the Developed Curriculum).
LSTS's educational objectives are to equip its students with the knowledge, competencies and characteristics, required to become the next generation of 21st century leaders, with the accompanying cognitive and practical competencies (“Doer - Thinker - Leader”). A global education program and innovative teaching methodologies are also implemented in order to realize LSTS's educational goals.
LSTS has developed three main educational programs as follows:
- The Capstone Program is a combination of academic studying and students’ learning competences. Students are able to develop their knowledge, skills and personal qualities in an effective learning environment through a diverse and professional assessment system.
- The Keystone Program is another important method to ensure the accomplishment of our educational objectives and includes the development of a systematic curriculum, an adaptive learning system, as well training programs for teachers of the highest quality.
- The Cornerstone Program is designed to be a core program based on the objective of helping students improve their English, scientific research ability and reading-expressing skills. These are regarded to be essential tools, helping students to interact and connect effectively with the people around them, thereby improving their ability to collaborate and solve problems.
LSTS's teachers and staff are always enthusiastic and creative in order to provide students with an ideal learning environment as well as keep pace with the latest trends in education around the world.
LSTS became the first and only school in Vietnam honored in the list of "Global Innovative Schools" accredited by the Microsoft Corporation in 2010. LSTS is an acclaimed educational institution, having received the “Excellent Labor Collective” Certificate of Merit and Emulation Flag from the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee as well as the “Outstanding Organization” Emulation Flag from Department of Education and Training.
In Vietnam, only students from gifted high schools and certain high-quality high schools are allowed to use their Grade 12 transcripts to apply directly to the University of Sydney. LSTS is now included as one of the prestigious high schools on the list. This is a testament to the prestige and position of Lawrence S. Ting School in the worldwide education system. With excellent knowledge, skills and qualities, LSTS students not only achieve success when studying at Vietnamese universities, but also easily integrate and have a solid foundation when studying abroad.
