Teach Abroad in an Ecological Environment in Shanghai

Shanghai Hongwen School (HWS) is a thriving and expanding, bilingual boarding school that started with Grades 1 and 6 in 2018, developed an A Level high school in 2019, and began offering the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme in 2020. Led by a strong leadership team on a beautiful campus with modern educational faculties, HWS aims to become a top-rated international school providing excellent education in Shanghai.

HWS is located in the Pudong District of Shanghai, approximately two kilometers from Chuansha Line 2 Subway Station and 8 kilometers from Pudong International Airport. The school is surrounded by Biyun International Community, Shanghai Disneyland Resort as well as luxury communities like Tang Town and Zhangjiang High-Tech Zone.

One of the few campuses known for its green environment in Shanghai, HWS spans 56,000 square meters and is surrounded by a river, plants, and trees. The school comprises a conjoined main construction, an annex building, a membrane swimming pool, sports field, and an outdoor playground. The main construction envelops a four-story classroom building, a six-story multi-functional building, and a four-story dormitory building.

In addition to 59 regular classrooms in the main building, 64 special function rooms evidence HWS’s commitment to science, technology, the arts, and sports. There are specialty rooms for natural science, history, geography, multimedia language, computers, 3D printing, art, dance, music, piano practice, sand painting, calligraphy, and piano practice. Other outstanding spaces include a black box theatre, Tang Xianzu Theatre, physicochemical laboratories, a STEM laboratory, an indoor swimming pool, indoor gym, archery hall, two libraries, and more!

Outside, students enjoy use of a 300-meter runway, a football field and apparatus motor area, four basketball courts, two tennis courts, a music square and roller-skating square, a climbing wall area, an outdoor theater, Bamboo Labyrinth, Lush Forest, Cherry-Blossom Path. The schoolgrounds also feature theme venues such as the Continent of River, Luxuriant Grassland, Children’s Playground, the Golden Pond, and an Acre of Farmland.

Registered as a Cambridge International School, HWS currently enrolls 1,039 pre-K-12 students, most of whom are Chinese. The school delivers the International General Certificate of Secondary Education, A Levels, and the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme. The teaching staff of 145 includes 99 Chinese educators. Shanghai Hongwen offers boarding for students from grades 1 through 12.

HWS can hire certified single teachers and couples with a non-teaching partner. The school will consider newly certified candidates and teaching couples. However, all international teaching candidates must possess a TEFL, TESOL or teaching certificate in addition to an academic degree in the subject they will be teaching. As per country regulations, those up to the age of 60 may obtain a work visa.

The overseas teaching benefits package includes monthly housing and annual airfare. A tuition benefit will be provided for dependents, depending on the situation. The school offers professional development opportunities. Worldwide health insurance—including emergency evacuation—is provided, with the employee paying a percentage. The Shanghai Hong Wen package allows for some substantial savings.
