Teach Abroad on a Culturally Rich Island – Employment at VIS

Perhaps you're interested in teaching abroad, working on a beautiful, culturally rich island? Verdala International School (VIS) is now listed among Search Associates' high-caliber schools. This well-established international school is located halfway between Italy and North Africa, on the island of Malta in the central Mediterranean. Founded in 1976, VIS, which encompasses six acres, is currently housed in a historic building complex in the centrally-located town of Pembroke.

VIS strives to ensure that all students become knowledgeable, inquisitive, and ethical contributors to the world. The school embraces a dynamic and diverse student population of 450 K-12 students of 49 nationalities. High school students work towards the International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) and the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma while elementary and middle school students engage in the enquiry based IPC and IMYC programs. Accreditation by the Middle States Association of Schools and Colleges enables VIS graduates to also obtain a U.S. high school diploma. One quarter of the students come from N. America and the U.K. The teaching staff of 46 includes 21 from the U.K. and N. America and 14 from Malta.

VIS prefers to hire married teaching couples and singles, both with and without children, and all teachers must have teaching certification/credentials. They will consider newly-certified, outstanding international educators with limited experience.  According to Head of School Roy Crawford, in the 2015-2016 school year, there are 50 full-time faculty members. This includes 12 British, 8 Americans, 2 Spaniards, 20 host-country nationals, and 1 each from 8 other nations. All are experienced, with university degrees and teaching credentials from their country of origin. All are also fluent English speakers, and 21 have advanced degrees.

A teaching couple with two children could see savings. Teachers receive a moving and settling-in allowance and airfare for the beginning and end of their contract. Two children may attend the school for free, for up to four years; after that, teachers pay a percentage of the school's fee. Local health insurance is also provided.
