Teach Abroad with the Oldest British International School in Myanmar

Teach abroad with Network International School (NIS), the oldest British international school in Yangon. This family-oriented not-for-profit school community is committed to their ethos statement to “foster an inclusive and nurturing environment where every student feels supported and valued.” Committed to providing a holistic education that empowers students to reach their full potential, NIS strives to create a learning environment that inspires curiosity, fosters respect, and celebrates diversity. As stated on the school’s website, “We are deeply committed to our shared goals and dedicated to providing a safe and secure space for all.”

The school is strategically situated in the heart of Yangon, Myanmar's foremost industrial and commercial hub, and the largest city. With its temperate climate, delectable cuisine, and a rising demand for high-quality education, Yangon presents an attractive destination for those aspiring to have a rewarding experience teaching abroad. Set against the scenic backdrop of the Yangon River, the city showcases a diverse cultural heritage, featuring numerous golden pagodas, bustling markets, and colonial architecture. The locals, renowned for their hospitality and friendliness, contribute to a warm and inviting atmosphere, facilitating meaningful connections for expatriates looking to engage with their students. Additionally, Myanmar offers exciting travel prospects, allowing expats to delve into the country's allure beyond the charms of Yangon.

NIS comprises two different campuses for the different age groups of the school: the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) and Primary Campus, for ages two to 11; and the brand new, purpose-built Secondary Campus, for Years 7 to 13. The Secondary Campus is fully equipped with UK science laboratories, a full-size sports hall, a dedicated Sixth Form Centre, ICT suites, music classroom and practice rooms, and art studios. Both campuses boast modern, high-standard facilities both inside and outside the classroom, including well-resourced libraries. The school has built safe, spacious playgrounds for different groups of students as well as sports facilities, such as a football pitch, outdoor swimming pool, and basketball courts.

A candidate for accreditation through British Schools Overseas, NIS follows the UK National Curriculum, adapted to fit with its international context. It is also a Cambridge-accredited exams center, offering IGCSE and A Level qualification. Currently enrolled are over 800 students aged two to 18, representing 24 different nationalities, with 84% from Myanmar. Graduating students gain entry to top-ranked universities around the world. Nearly 60% of the total teaching staff is from Myanmar.

Students in Years 1 to 13 enjoy a wide range of extracurricular activities. The very extensive list includes swimming, football, yoga, climbing, Coding Club, music, Model United Nations, theatre, STEAM, and arts and crafts. Sports teams and competitions in both the primary and secondary schools practice and regularly compete in friendly and competitive tournaments with all the other international schools in Yangon.

NIS hires certified singles and couples of diverse profiles, including couples with a non-teaching partner and newly certified teachers. The school will also consider interns wishing to experience teaching abroad. Teachers need not hold an academic degree in the subject they will be teaching, and there is no age limit for certified teachers to obtain a work visa in Myanmar.

The benefits package includes a tax-paid salary in USD, monthly housing, and annual airfare. All visa costs are covered for international families. Additionally, full tuition is offered to all dependent children. NIS provides professional development opportunities. Worldwide health insurance—except for the U.S—is fully covered for those teaching overseas and their dependents. There are local employment opportunities for non-teaching partners.
