Teach Overseas in India

JBCN International School (JBCN) is a brand new K–12 day school located in Lower Parel, a prime residential area of Mumbai, India. JBCN is an Indian State Recognized school, authorized to deliver the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme and accredited by both Cambridge Assessment International Education and the Indian Certificate of Secondary Education. For over 30 years, its parent organization, Mumbai-based JBCN Education, has managed 14 educational institutions—ranging from pre-schools to national and international high schools—with great success. JBCN is one of the group’s three international schools in Mumbai.

Currently 1,250 students, mostly Indian, follow a unique program that prepares them for the International General Certificate of Secondary Education and the IB Diploma. The teaching staff of 153 comprises 150 teachers from India and three from the U.K. The school’s integral co-curricular program, called Mind Body Soul, begins at the pre-primary level, which, as the school says, “takes into account the age and the ability of the children and builds on their skill set and hones their natural abilities.”

Sports, artistic expression, and social awareness form three major facets of student life at JBCN. Students may take part in track and field, cricket, basketball, football, skating, taekwondo, chess, and swimming. Choices for artistic exploration are creative arts, theater, dance, and music. Social awareness is highlighted during Environment Week, and the school offers an outreach program that supports the Cotton Association of India and charitable foundations, such as the Helen Keller Foundation.

JBCN is interested in hiring singles, interns, and couples with a non-teaching spouse. They will consider also teaching couples as well as outstanding newly-certified teachers and experienced (local) teachers lacking certification. Candidates must hold an academic degree in the subject they will be teaching. India issues work visas to certificated teachers under the age of 68.

The JBCN benefits package includes a competitive, non-taxed salary, furnished housing with some utilities covered, and annual airfare. The school offers a 40% discount on tuition and free daily lunch at school. Professional development opportunities for IB and Cambridge training are provided. Local health insurance, including life insurance, is fully covered. This package offers a chance for savings—even for interns—or for a family of four to live on one salary. There are local employment opportunities for non-teaching spouses.
