Senior Associates Dr. Ralph Jahr and Dr. David Cramer have announced that the American International School of Brazzaville (AISB) in the Republic of Congo has appointed Dr. Terry Howard to be its next director, beginning August 2016.
Dr. Howard is currently Director of the American International School of Libreville in Libreville, Gabon. He has held other administrative positions at the International School of Kenya as well as the position of Staff Counselor with UNICEF / UNDPKO in both Nigeria and South Sudan. After serving with the U.S. Peace Corps in Liberia early in his career, Terry went on to teach biology, general science, and math at international schools in Kuwait, Norway, Kenya, and in the U.S. Dr. Howard earned a B.A. in Education from Bethel College in Indiana, an M.A. in Education from Indiana University in South Bend, Indiana, and a Ph.D. in Counselor Education from the University of Central Florida in Orlando, Florida.
AISB, founded in 2012, is a pre-K-9 school with approximately 70 students. The school is a candidate with the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools (MSA). AISB uses the American Education Reaches Out (AERO) standards for Math, English, and Social Studies for kindergarten through Grade 9, with the study of French as a core requirement throughout. Plans to add a grade level each year will result in AISB's first graduating class in June 2019. By 11th and 12th grades, students will be offered Advanced Placement (AP) courses. At present, AISB is involved in curriculum review and revision, a process that consists of examining standards and benchmarks, creating unit calendars, and unit planning.
The AISB campus includes well-resourced classrooms, including a PC computer lab, a music/art multi-purpose area, a newly-established library, as well as a covered basketball court, swimming pool, a grassy playing field, and a children's playground.
Search Associates congratulates Dr. Terry Howard and the American International School of Brazzaville during these exciting times of expansion and improvement.
