The Hong Kong Fair Brings Good Luck for the Chinese New Year

Gong Xi Fa Cai (Happy New Year)! If you are interested in working in Asia, you don't want to miss the Hong Kong Fair. Organizer, and Senior Associate, Dr. Barry Drake describes the fair as a low-cost, relatively stress-free, weekend-only recruiting alternative. All schools attending the fair come from Asia--75% specifically from the China region. This January 15-17th, before the Year of the Sheep gave way to the Year of the Monkey, 175 candidates met with recruiters from 49 schools to explore about 500 job vacancies. (Forty-nine, by the way, is a lucky number for people born in the Year of the Sheep.) Senior Associate Ray Sparks joined Barry to support to all participants at the busy fair. The event was hosted by the Chinese International School (CIS), which provided an excellent support staff, wonderful catering, and fast and efficient internet.

Candidates and recruiters alike thought the weekend well worth it. One recruiter wrote to Barry,

"I wanted . . . to let you know that we sent out five offers to teachers at the fair, and three accepted our offers. We were very pleased with the quality of the candidates at this fair and want to thank you for the opportunity to recruit teachers in Hong Kong."

Candidates thanked Search Associates for making their job search and impending life change much easier. One candidate said,

"The Hong Kong fair was such a great experience because I did not expect that all the participants, staff, recruiters, and candidates, would be warm, accommodating, and friendly. I am looking forward to working with you again in the coming years when I decide to search for new opportunities."

A teaching couple commented,

"We are really impressed with the quality of the people and schools attending the Search Associates Job Fair. We had many interviews, and all went well. When we got home, we had an offer from a school we really loved and ended up accepting it a couple of days later. Thank you Search Associates, for helping us connect to so many great educators in such a short time."

Barry reports that, so far, 120 job offers have been made, 49 positions filled (that lucky number again), and more to come. Similar to our 11 other job fairs, Search Associates Hong Kong also provides great opportunities for participants to make connections with colleagues and international school heads, and, of course, meet with our expert Senior Associates and their support staff.
